Volunteering Holidays
Volunteering holidays are a brilliant way to really experience local culture and make a contribution to communities in need. However they are often only accessible to those with extended periods of free time available and often are very specific in the kind of projects undertaken e.g. building schools, hospitals, teaching etc.
At SheherazadVentures we have designed trips in Morocco which allow for a rewarding day of volunteering within a spectacular week-long tour - the activities provide recreational and cultural activities within a single day.
This is an ideal way for absolutely anybody to get a taste of community work in a foreign setting whilst on holiday and seeing the sights.
Our ‘voliday’ will provide recreational activities for the community of M’Hamid el Ghizlane, a small village of settled nomads of both Berber and Saharan origins. Due to the nature of local daily life, the ‘voliday’ events takes place on a Sunday within a week-long holiday tour, either in the village itself or at a desert camp just 2kms away. The activities/games etc. are delivered by the tourist under guidance from the SheherazadVentures director, using our local ground-team to handle logistics, community liaison and translation.
Can you lead games such as Twister, ‘Simon Says’, musical chairs, egg-and-spoon races, fun relay races, face-painting, balloon games, etc… Then it’s up to you to host a party in the desert and invite the locals to join in! Or maybe you have a sports or music leadership qualification? Or for a more specific day-project can you bring football skills, softball or short tennis, or maybe circus skills, or how about a simple painting/crafts/recycling activity?
These holidays are suitable for solo travellers wanting to join with others, couples, groups and families with older children.
