Here's a map of Morocco that you might find useful.
On it are marked some key international transport hubs (air and sea), major towns and places of cultural interest.  
You'll also see the routes taken for some of our desert trips which run from Marrakech via Ouarzazate to M'Hamid el Ghizlane (south) or Merzouga (east).

Languages: The official language is Arabic ("darija" is the Moroccan dialect), but Berber is spoken by a large minority. There are 3 regional Berber languages and in the Sahara the local Arabic dialect is "hassani".
French is widely spoken throughout the country, except in the northern regions where Spanish is more predominant. 

Religion: Predominantly Muslim with Jewish and Christian minorities.
