Trip Summary:
A 7-day 4x4 adventure tour that has plenty to entertain all members of the family. The excitement of haggling in the ancient medina of Marrakech, it's snake charmers and it's endless souks where you can buy anything from dried bats for casting spells to health-giving potions or luxurious kaftans. The tour takes you over the High Atlas Mountains in 4x4 where you can stop at the street stalls or cafes where there are glimmering minerals and pre-historic fossils to admire and see rural life in the mud-built douar (villages). A visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou and to the "Hollywood of Morocco" in Ouarzazate - the Atlas Film Studios. The trip continues on toward the expanse of the Sahara desert, encountering "Blue Men" of the Sahara nomads who do business here. If time permits we will have time for you to try decorating a locally-made ceramic plate using traditional method of henna-dye. Then you will spend 2 nights in desert camps with campfires and music and local nomads as your hosts. For a circular tour you travel back off-road across desert piste via the dried lake of Irikki and return to Marrakech.

You will be accompanied throughout by an English-speaking local Saharaoui guide.

An exhilarating drive across the Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass in 4x4, winding and twisting at high altitudes towards the great South of Morocco.
Visit to world-famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, crossing the stepping stones to reach this carefully restored fortified village. Once the pride of the Glaoui family who controlled the spice caravans en route from the Sahara. Ait Benhaddou has achieved world-wide fame through it’s role in the movies – it’s featured as a backdrop for such great films as Lawrence of Arabia, Jewel in the Nile and Gladiator.

Visit to back-lots of nearby Atlas Film studios - Morocco's Hollywood.
Dinner and relax in hotel in Ouarzazate.

Day 4

Over the Anti-Atlas, off-road through the Drâa Valley and on towards the Sahara! Time for a short walk in the oasis before lunch in Zagora (the last major town before the desert) and then a visit to the Berber pottery at Tamegroute run by local families and their children. Possibly you will have time to try and decorate your own small bowl using henna (by advance arrangement if time allows). Evening time we arrive at the bivouac camp at the edge of the desert - dinner in the company of your Saharaoui nomad hosts and you can sleep under the stars or under the tents woven from camel-wool.
